From March 14 to 25, the city of Auray is celebrating the art of puppetry as part of the 19th edition of its Méliscènes festival. The shows take place in Auray and in nine surrounding municipalities: La Trinité sur Mer, Pluneret, Plumergat, Pluvigner, Ploemel, Landévant, Locoal Mendon, Brec’h and Belz.
This festival, which has become a must in the annual program of puppeteers and lovers of this art, allows 22 companies to give 73 performances for the pleasure of 8,000 spectators.
The variety of types of puppets, the styles borrowed (humour, poetry, wonder), the themes addressed or the target audiences make this festival be unique. Among other shows:
- Serge Boulier and the Bouffou Théâtre company, which will present their show «du vent dans la tête» for the children, which takes up the dialogue of a little boy and a little girl questioning important topics. http://www.bouffoutheatre.com/fr/spectacles/du-vent-dans-la-tete
- Simon Delattre,, actor, puppeteer, director, who directs the company Rodéo Théâtre, which will present «la vie devant soi», based on the novel by Romain Gary. http://www.theatre-sartrouville.com/evenements/la-vie-devant-soi/
- The Tabola Rassa company, which will present a crazy version of Molière’s «L’Avare» where gold coins are replaced by water, and characters by taps… http://www.tabolarassa.com/l-avare.html
